Intimate off-grid bush lodge in Blue Canyon Private Game Reserve

Accommodation & Grounds

The lodge has a swimming pool with panoramic views over the bushveld, sun loungers, and a sun terrace. Five private cottages are arranged around the pool and a massive Jackalberry tree that shades the deck. Each cottage includes indoor and outdoor showers, and the compound is secured with low-profile fencing to keep wildlife at a distance while allowing sounds of the bush.

Dining

The restaurant serves brunch, dinner, and high tea, with menus offering full English/Irish, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free breakfast options. Chef Gert prepares three-course dinners under the stars in the boma, which overlooks a waterhole where animals frequently visit. Special diet menus are available upon request, and the kitchen uses ingredients grown on-site at Leopard's Bend.

Safari & Game Drives

Game drives are led by expert guides like Dave and Kelle, paired with trackers such as Golden and Oriel, who have decades of combined experience in the area. The drives cover the 4,000-hectare Blue Canyon Private Game Reserve and consistently deliver sightings of the Big Five, including lions, leopards, and elephants. Guests also enjoy walking tours and informative stops that cover flora, fauna, and conservation efforts.

Conservation & Sustainability

The lodge is 100% off-grid, powered by solar energy and designed to minimize environmental impact. A dedicated foundation runs conservation projects within the reserve, including anti-poaching patrols and habitat restoration. Guests can meet with the section ranger to learn about ongoing ecological management and the protection of native trees and wildlife.

Leopard's Bend is located 24 km from Kinyonga Reptile Centre, 37 km from Drakensig Golf Club, and 46 km from Blyde River Canyon. The lodge offers free airport shuttle pick-up from Hoedspruit Airport, which is a short transfer away. The reserve borders the Greater Kruger area, providing a quieter safari setting with fewer vehicles and larger trees compared to the national park.
